We are thankful to the Mamow Sha-way-gi-kay-win: North South Partnership for Children courtesy of Betty-Lou Scholey, who have donated 15 aboriginal colouring books.  The books were designed by 2 native artists from the community of Sandy Lake First Nation; Bart Meekis (presently Chief) and Robert Kakegamic.

Excerpt from the book:

Our Hope  —  At the outset of the 21st century, maintaining and rejuvenating First Nations culture is of paramount importance to First Nations people and their leaders.  How to inform and educate First Nations youth about the need to keep their heritage alive is a major topic of discussion  in many First nations communities…….We, the “Mingqun” First Nations Artists, are trying to preserve the knowledge, beauty and diversity of our culture through our paintings.  We want to bring a deeper understanding and appreciation of the value of our Aboriginal artistic heritage to our own people and to our cultures and peoples around the world.  It is our hope that this reviewed and expanded version of our first “Mingqun” colouring book will assist us in these endeavours.”
